If you have passed your CAT exam and scored well, you will receive a notification to verify your documents and certificates. This stage of the admission in the top MBA colleges in India is known as the counselling stage. For CAT, IIMs have an offline counselling process, but when it comes to seat allotment, the counselling is done online.
Keep Documents Ready
CAT counselling for IIMs is done at one of the counselling help line centres. Here, your certificates and other documents will be verified. You will need to carry the following documents with you for the counselling session:
- Original counselling letter and a photocopy of the letter
- Original admit card and a photocopy of the card
- Original 10th and 12th standard documents with minimum of two sets of photocopy
- Original degree and two photocopies of your degree
- CAT scorecard and rank card
- Category certificate
- Medical documents that you mentioned in the CAT application form
- Bank draft for the amount mentioned in the CAT prospectus
Once your documents are verified, you will be able to select your IIM choices. At this stage, you will have to pay the processing fee via demand draft. Your choice of colleges has to be done online through the CAT website, and forms a part of the web counselling session. Make sure you lock your choices after you make them, or they will not be counted.
A few days after personal, face-to-face counselling, you will be allocated seats based on your eligibility and merit. The seat allotment letter will be sent to your CAT account, but you will also receive a text message on your registered mobile phone. You can access this letter by logging onto your CAT account and downloading it. Take a printout of the letter and approach the assigned college to submit the letter.
It is important to remember that the counselling dates are decided based on your CAT score in the merit list. Hence, you will have to keep a track of it through the official CAT website.
Now that you know how the top MBA colleges in India conduct counselling, you can better prepare yourself for it when your time comes.
